Governor Ambode abolishes monthly environmental exercise in Lagos

Every last Saturday of each month is dedicated to a mandatory clean up of Lagos; the nation’s commercial capital and wannabe mega city.

Shops and businesses are often shuttered from 7am to 10am and vehicular movement ceases for the period.

Not any more, says Lagos governor Akinwunmi Ambode.

A statement made available by the state Commissioner for the Environment, Babatunde Adejare, during the ministry’s monthly media chat in Lagos on Thursday, has said the monthly exercise will be jettisoned because of its cost to the state’s economy.

The commissioner disclosed that the state governor Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode has decided that the state cannot afford to shut down a mega city like Lagos for a period of 3 hours.

Mr. Adejare noted that environmental sanitation should rather be a daily exercise and charged residents to make it a way of life.

The commissioner also vowed that the state will shut down markets violating the state’s environmental laws.

Suuicide bomber blows himself up while hugging government official

An Islamist militant suicide bomber on Thursday blew himself and a local official up in the autonomous Somali region of Puntland after putting his arms around the official as if in a hug.

Major Nur Ahmed, a Police officer, said that the deceased official, Saeed Ali, and the guards had been targeted as they attempted to enter a car.

Witnesses said that two bystanders also died in the blast.

Meanwhile, Sheikh Abu-Musab, al Shabaab’s Military Operation Spokesman, has issued a statement taking responsibility for the attack.

“We killed Saeed Ali, the treasurer of Galkayo, and several police officers that were guarding him,’’ he said.

From factory worker to Queen: Nigerian King marries Jamaican woman who was a factory worker in Canada

A Nigerian Prince who returned home from his base in Toronto Canada in 2015 was crowned the King of Iwo land, and by his side was Jamaican girlfriend turned wife who is a former factory worker, Chanel Chin. Chanel is the daughter of popular Rastafarian reggae artiste Ludlow Chin, better known as 'Bobo Zaro'.

King Abdul Rasheed, now known as the Imperial Oluwo of the Iwo Kingdom in Nigeria, after his ascendancy on November 10, 2015, had met the 32-year-old Chanel in Canada, where he resided before his ascension.

When the then Prince Akanbi informed her he would be crowned as king in Nigeria, Chanel promised to return home with him and the rest is history.

The 32-year-old Toronto-based Jamaican factory worker is now the Queen Oluwo Of Iwo.

In a chat with a The Gleaner, she said: "My ancestors were taken away as slaves, but I have returned to Africa as a queen. One's destiny cannot be altered. As a young child, I always wanted to come to Africa, but didn't know how. I feel this is a great opportunity for black people worldwide to return to their home."

She also added that she is yet to overcome the language barrier. “I know some Yoruba words. Everyday, I am still learning. Another challenge is that the food is quite different from our mouth- watering Jamaican dishes.”

 

Beautiful, naked 20 year old model jumps to her death rather than be raped

A model jumped to her death from her rented holiday flat rather than be raped by an estate agent and his friend, it has been reported.

University student Gulay Bursali, 20, jumped naked from the Istanbul apartment she was staying in with her boyfriend, identified only as Engin O, to escape the home invasion sex attack.

The young couple had asked a property agent if there was an empty apartment they could rent for the weekend, and were given the keys to a property in Basaksehir, a district located on the European side of Istanbul.

But after partying with friends in a local bar, they had gone back to the flat where they ended up being attacked by the estate agent.

According to the boyfriend’s statement to police, the estate agent had tricked his way inside by claiming he wanted to get some things from the apartment.

Once inside, the estate agent and a friend beat him up, took his phone and locked him inside one of the rooms.

They then locked the young woman in another room, and stripped her naked before she had managed to open the window and climb outside, threatening to jump unless they let her go.

Eyewitnesses said they had seen the naked young woman hanging out of the window.

One man told local TV: "I heard somebody screaming help, and I thought maybe it was just someone messing around. Then I saw naked girl hanging out of the window.

"She was yelling don't pull me inside, if you try to pull me inside I will jump. Those inside were shouting at her to come inside, saying they were going to call the police.

"But she wasn't interested, I heard her threaten them two more times to say that she would jump, and was calling for somebody to help.


"I didn't say anything, I felt if she moved even a bit she was going to fall and that was why didn't say anything. I just called the police. While I was doing that, she jumped."

The boyfriend who was freed from the flat and quizzed has now been released and police are looking for the estate agent and his friend.

Family reveals the real cause of Nomoreloss's death

After a lot of speculation on the cause of death of Muyiwa Adeyemi Oshinuga a.k.a Nomoreloss, who passed away on March 21, 2016, it has been disclosed that he gave up the ghost after a short battle with a chest infection – Pneumonia – and not Typhoid as many had reported.

This revelation came as burial arrangements for the 39 year old singer were announced on Wednesday.
